Studying abroad can be difficult, especially if it’s your first time living away from home. We know how it feels, and so does every one of our students studying at JCU Brisbane. Our campus is made up of 100% international students, so like you, they are in the same boat.
To ensure our students become well acquainted with each other and enjoy everything that college life entails, we work very hard in creating a friendly, welcoming campus community.
Before you land in Australia, we encourage our new students to join our Facebook groups where students can introduce themselves, meet other peers also studying in their cohort and learn about the programs we have on campus.
Once arriving, we then hold a big Orientation Day, filled with informative speeches from academics, staff and important members of the public. We want to ensure you feel comfortable and know everyone who works at our campus.
After these speeches, we celebrate your first day with free food (everything tastes better when it’s free), market day stalls and games organised by your JCU Brisbane Student Association (JCUBSA). Your JCUBSA is here to make you feel welcome and introduce you to the several social clubs we have on campus. Social clubs are great places to meet like-minded people, make new friends and become more involved in campus activities. To find out what clubs JCUB has on offer and when their sign-up dates are, please visit: https://www.jcub.edu.au/current-students/campus-life/student-association/social-clubs/
In addition to this, we also have a Student Mentor Program. The Student Mentor Program is a volunteer program designed to connect students with student mentors. Students may want a mentor for a number of reasons, so we have two different types of mentors, Buddy Mentor and Study Mentor. Both of these mentors aim to guide you, so you can get the most out of your experience here at JCU Brisbane.
Whether you are new to Brisbane, new to university or you just want to hone your study, leadership or people skills, the JCU Brisbane Student Mentor Program is here to help. For more information on this, please visit: https://www.jcub.edu.au/current-students/campus-life/student-mentor-program/
