It is recommended that you arrive at least a week prior to the commencement of lectures. Orientation Week or ‘O Week’ is the official start to your university studies and is held in the week prior to the start of the trimester.
During O Week you must attend an Essential Academic Skills Workshop and Orientation Day. This will ensure you are fully equipped to excel in your chosen program.
Registration is a self-guided process, that you can commence whilst you are still offshore. During the Registration process you will be shown how to set up your student accounts, get to know the University support services, become familiar with the JCU and JCU Brisbane websites, and you will also self-enrol into your first trimester’s subjects. Important information such as your health insurance, personal wellbeing, safety, and public transport are covered in the International Student Guide. If you need help with completing Registration you’re encouraged to visit Student Services as soon as you arrive in Brisbane.
The Essential Academic Skills Workshop will introduce you to the practices and requirements to meet the academic standards set by JCU. This workshop is compulsory and topics covered will include essential researching, note taking, writing and behavioural skills.
Orientation Day is your opportunity to meet the Campus Director, the Associate Deans and key support staff. You will be provided with an understanding of what is expected of you as a student, and at the same time you will be able to familiarise yourself with the new surroundings and make some friends along the way. As attendance will be taken, ensure you bring your passport with a copy of your CoE.
Your Student ID will be available approximately 3 working days after completing all 7 steps on our website. You will need to visit Student Services with your Passport as identification to collect your ID card.
Please see the Registration and Orientation Program below with information on dates and times the sessions will be held. If you’re unable to attend the compulsory workshops during O week, please email email@example.com
