Alumni Student Sets Up Community Based Rugby League Team
One of our fantastic Alumni students, Michelle Numambo Joseph has assisted in setting up a community based rugby league team, the Gabone Kilivana Rugby League Association in Gabone Village, Rigo Coast, Papua New Guinea.
The teams aim is to bring about positive change in the community through the sport of rugby league.
Recently, JCU Brisbane donated training shirts to the players at the Gabone Kilivana Club.
The Gabone Kilivana Rugby League Association said,
“The day that all the players have been looking forward to has finally arrived.
As another weekend of footy has come to an end, The Gabone Kilivana’s have also wrapped up their first weekend of footy on a high note.
It was a great feeling and sight to see the majority of the community and families come together after almost a decade to witness the first football match with so much hype and enthusiasm.
The players and officials were quite exhilarated to finally put on their T-Shirts that were proudly donated by the James Cook University, Brisbane Campus. As streamed in the video, the entire Team of Gabone Kilivana and the Village have extended their gratitude and appreciation once again towards the Management and Staff of JCUB for their invaluable support”.
Thank you Michelle Numambo Joseph for organising this great community initiative and creating a positive impact. To stay up-to-date on the team’s proceedings, please click here.
