As a young tradesperson in the water infrastructure industry working across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, Luke quickly became passionate about the disparity in development. He took on a role as Transnational Operations Manager for a multi-national firm, APT, managing major water projects in Hong Kong, Malaysia as well as AUSAID projects in PNG, FIJI and the Solomon Islands.  Here, Luke was determined to find ways to increase indigenous autonomy by designing programs within project systems for trade mentoring. APT was then bought by TYCO int. in 2004 and Luke left to start DWS Contracting.

For the next 10 years Luke built the firm, targeting one division to international development projects, the other to mining infrastructure working for firms such as Fortescue Metal Group Ltd (FMG), Century Zinc, SMG and Anaconda Nickel. The firm grew from 3 staff to over 180 by 2010.

Completing an MBA at the University of Queensland (UQ) in 2012 and receiving the prestigious ‘UQ Leadership Award, 2012’ from the school of Business, Law and Economics, his passion continued with research and studies in International Relations, Peace and Conflict studies, as well as Project Management at the university. During this time, Luke worked in volunteer and doner capacities in PNG and the Solomon Islands.

Transitioning out of DWS in 2013, Luke became a ‘cause-based ‘ investor starting charitable associations targeting those affected by human trafficking through Indonesia and mentoring young entrepreneurs in Australia who themselves had compelling causes. In 2016 he was a guest lecturer at James Cook University in Brisbane, Australia, on Entrepreneurship in Emerging Markets, Sustainable Enterprise and International Political Economy. These subjects aligned with Luke’s life learnings and formal studies with all students, now numbering in the thousands, coming from developing and emerging markets throughout the region. This became a full-time appointment.

In 2016 Luke was accompanied by a colleague, Sri Lankan-born Australian, visiting Sri Lanka with a view to start a social enterprise in Wattala, Colombo. By November 2017 Triton Global Shipping opened its doors with Luke as its first Chairperson and the firm has been growing successfully since. The vision for TGS remains to promote and support the development of Sri Lanka broadly through leading one team at a time in the principles of ethics, governances and sustainability.

Luke continues his professional development completing regular courses in agriculture, water sustainability, policy development, governance, economic development and ethics. He regularly participates in industry conferences on water and sustainability and international affairs and is politically active, being elected to a regional executive role within a state party. Luke remains committed to support meaningful causes, build sustainable enterprises and increase development opportunities for all from the individual to the national level.
