English Language Requirements
Students whose native language is not English must generally demonstrate their proficiency by achieving a score in a test such as IELTS or TOEFL (see table below). Other examples of English Language tests, including the Combined Universities Language Test (CULT) and the Cambridge English Language Test, may be accepted as proof of English language proficiency. In some cases students who have successfully completed two years of full time study in which the language of instruction was English may satisfy the English requirement. To be considered, the study must have been undertaken no more than two years prior to the date of offer of a place at JCUB. Students must provide a certificate or statement issued by the Registrar's office of that institution confirming this.
Students who meet academic entry requirements but not the English entry requirements outlined in the table below, may be offered a place in the following bridging courses through Sarina Russo Schools Australia - Russo English Australia:
- Bridging English Entry Program (BEEP)
- Direct Entry to JCU degrees
- Entry requirement: 5.5 (no component lower than 5.0)
- Direct Entry English Program 2 (DEEP 2)
- Entry BEEP
- Entry to Diploma
- Entry requirement: 5.0 (no component lower than 4.5)
- Direct Entry English Program 1 (DEEP 1)
- Entry to DEEP 2
- Entry to Certificate IV in Further Education
- Entry requirement: 4.5 (no component lower than 4.0)
English Language Entry Requirements for JCUB Courses

Students applying from a country deemed Assessment Level 3 and 4 by the Department of Immigration, Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs (DIMIA), will be required to sit an IELTS English test in most cases to be eligible to obtain a student visa, even if they meet other English language requirements set by JCU.
