International Work Certificate
What is the International Work Certificate (IWC)?
The International Work Certificate provides students with the necessary skills, workplace development and experience to work in a global business environment. Today employers prefer work ready students who have practical experience and exposure in a work environment in addition to having a degree. The IWC formally recognises work hours and work skills acquired by students through various forms of employment.

Requirements
- 500 hours over the normal degree period consisting of three trimesters or more
- Completion of Log Book
- attendance to 4 compulsory workshops and successful completion of Commercial Awareness Test (CAT)

What types of jobs qualify?
The International Work Certificate recognises skills obtained in paid employment, volunteering positions or unpaid work experience. The type of skills specified on the International Work Certificate transcript will be reflective of the type of work you have undertaken over the normal degree period consisting of three trimesters or more. Students can utilise the JCUB Work- Study options service to receive employment assistance in resume writing, job searching and interviewing. It is also highly recommended that students conduct their own job search to increase their chances of finding a job and to start logging work hours as soon as possible. Students are reminded to adhere to work visa requirements during this program.

What is the Log Book?
Students must record work hours, work tasks undertaken & workshop attendance in a log book. The students work supervisor must initial the hours recorded and the student is required to submit the log book to JCUB for checking. Refer to the Overview for details.
Compulsory Workshops and Assessment
Students are required to attend 4 compulsory workshops and complete the Commercialisation Awareness Test (CAT). Workshops will prepare students for the work environment with focus on areas such as problem solving, innovation, business culture and communication and so on. Dates will be provided each trimester.
Commercialisation Awareness Test (CAT)
The CAT is an IWC completion test that helps measure the students:
- Readiness-for-work in a dynamic global environment
- Business, commercial and industrial acumen
- Level of work-skills attainment
The CAT forms part a robust mechanism that ensures business that the IWC is a credible measure of student employability.
Who is eligible?
The International Work Certificate is available to all undergraduate and postgraduate James Cook University Brisbane students.
How to Apply?
- Registration session will be advertised and held at the beginning of each trimester.
- Students are required to purchase the IWC log book and complete an application form at this session.
- Students will be required to sign a learning agreement.
