Bulletin Update (7 Dec 2005)
Just a quick note to let you know how things are going here at JCU Brisbane. At the moment we are busy holding information sessions for international students who are currently living in Brisbane. Our JCU brochure display in the foyer is finished and looks great. It is in the same style as those you often see in the windows of real estate agents but on a bigger scale. It has room for 100 brochures and is currently displaying fliers for all of JCU's undergraduate degrees.
Those of you who have visited us may have had a campus tour and seen the empty floors above the Admissions Office. A lot of work was involved in moving tenants out of these floors and stripping the existing fixtures and fittings, but it wasn't very interesting to look at. A lot of the building work has been pre-fabricated off-site and the furnishings have been ordered and collected in a warehouse, but again this has not been very exciting for those of us on the actual campus.
We are very pleased to announce that the on-site construction work is now in full swing. The air conditioning plant for the whole building is in the process of being replaced and construction of the lecture theatres, computer labs and all of our other facilities are well underway.
For safety reasons and also so we don't get in the way of the workers, we will not be able to conduct tours of the campus while construction is underway so we have added a photo gallery to the JCUB website. Towards the end of every week we will be adding new photos to the gallery, this will enable you to share our excitement as the campus takes shape, follow the construction progress and get an idea of what the campus is like. There are also artist's impressions of what some of the completed facilities will look like. Construction will be completed well ahead of our first intake in March 2006 and students will have all the benefits of starting their studies with brand-new facilities and equipment.
Unfortunately, during the re-construction work that will take place directly outside the front of our office, we have to temporarily re-locate the Admissions Office to the seventh floor of the building starting from Friday 9 December. There will still be public access and signs will be erected giving directions so, if you are in Brisbane and want to discuss the campus or any of our courses please feel free to drop in. We can also provide information about the programs available at JCU's other campuses. If you are not in Brisbane, you can direct any enquiries or feed back to jcubrisbane@jcub.edu.au.
